WILLIAM CLARK SIDES
March 5, 1931 - May 13, 2024
Bill grew up in Sipsey, Alabama and left for the University of Alabama after High School where he played Tuba and marched in the Million Dollar Band his freshman year. However... doing so took his focus from his studies and as he was fond of saying, "They (University) asked me if I might want to sit out a year and think about my future"!
He and a close friend came upon a recruiting station for the Navy were sold. The Navy allowed him adventures across the Seas and out of the country from San Diego, the Coast of Oregon, and finally Electronics School in Kansas City. With training completed he was sent to Norfolk, VA, where he met Joan Hermann (also enlisted) and upon an impending appointment to the Philippine Islands, they married and spent the last 2 of his 5 total years of Service when he was Discharged in January 1956. A short stint back in college ended with an opportunity to work at NAS Pensacola and with one child and one on the way, he took it! Another final return to Tuscaloosa and U of AL, yielded a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1966 for which he used in the design aspect of the Power Industry.
The remainder of his professional career found him in Huntsville, AL, Wilsonville, AL, then Birmingham, AL. He retired as a Project Manager with the Core of Engineers in Huntsville, AL. He excelled at his work, but his passion was his hobby of photography where he learned the Art of developing his own photos in his self-made Photo Lab. He loved reading, fishing, traveling, and a good Southern home cooked meal!
Most of all he would say his greatest joy, on this Earth, was to see and experience all 3 children, Lee Ann Hasemeyer (Alan), Dean Sides, MD (Lisa), and Jo Ellen Faulkner (Daniel) grow, have children of their own and point them to love and honor both Country and the Living God. Now, as Heaven is his new home, he leaves 9 Grands, Bradley, Leslie, Chandler, Melynda, Luke, John, Patrick, Ryan and Shannon; 17 Great Grands, a devoted wife, Ouida Sides of 14 years, and her dear family. He can rejoice at a life well lived and a job well done!
