William Shane Mason, known to everyone simply as Shane, passed away at the age of 58 on March 1st, 2025 in Fairhope, AL. Born on August 30th, 1966 to Robert G. "Butch" Mason Jr and Mary D. "Denny" Mason in Mobile, Shane grew up in Fairhope playing at the local arcade, participating in martial arts, reading comic books, and helping his father out with the family side business of muscle car repair. After a tumultuous teenhood, Shane made the noble commitment to serve his country in the US Navy in 1988. His 26 year-long career as a fire controlman carried him across several ships: USS Coontz (DDG-40) starting 1989; USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55) starting 1992; USS Russell (DDG-59) starting 1996; USS Roosevelt (DDG-80) starting 2000; and the USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) starting 2012. During his Navy tenure, he pursued higher education, earning an Associate Degree from Excelsior College. Upon retirement in 2013 as a Senior Chief, he was able to finally feel the peace and joy of life at home.

A man of honor, commitment, and dedication, his legacy continues to live on through his mother, Denny; his wife, Connie; and his children, Elizabeth (26), Jared (21), and Christopher (20).

A celebration to honor his life will be announced at a future date.
