William Ernest Cooke, age 82, a resident of Silverhill, Alabama, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022. William was a Navy Veteran, serving 19 years, from 1958 to 1977. He was a retired Avionics Chief Petty Officer. William was a part of the Navy recovery team which rescued Apollo astronauts from the ocean after splashdown. William was a member of Rosinton United Methodist Church Bluegrass Band. He was also an avid Auburn fan. William was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Steven Cooke. William is survived by his wife, Lorraine Cooke of Silverhill; son, William “Bill Jr.” Ernest Cooke (Robin) of Summerdale; sister, Faye Boykin (Earl) of Wilson, North Carolina; brothers, Wayne Cooke (Jane), Glen Cooke of Wilson, North Carolina; 5 grandchildren, Dustin Cooke (Ashton), Brandy Cooke, Bailey Cooke, Taylor Cooke, Morgan Curry (Tavaris); 2 great-grandchildren, Jaylen Cooke and Carter Curry; childhood cousin, Durwood Rowe; along with many other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 11:00am in the chapel of the Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 19698 Greeno Road, Fairhope, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Jubilee Memorial Gardens in Daphne.
