William Percy “Billy” Manders, III, age 84, resident of Point Clear, AL, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, February 18, 2018. Mr. Manders was a graduate of McGill Institute and attended Spring Hill College. He pursued a career spanning over fifty years on the waterfront. He was passionate about his career and retired as a fifth generation Bar Pilot, piloting ships in and out of the port of Mobile. He loved spending many outings in the Mobile Delta, hunting in the Tensaw woods and watching his Alabama team play. His greatest love was spending time with his family whom he adored. He was best known for entertaining everyone with his larger than life personality and witty sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Percy Manders, Jr., Eunice Elizabeth Scott Manders; his brother, George Alexander Manders. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Sawyer Manders and children William Armstrong “Billy” Manders, Missy (Ormand) Thompson, Angie Manders, stepson, Deese (Kim) Chatwood; grandchildren, Caroline Adele Thompson, Melanie Chandler Thompson, Ormand Bennett Thompson, William Percy Manders IV, Mai Mai Chatwood; sisters-in-law, Peggy Manders, “Egie” (Jerry) Middleton; brother-in-law, A. B. (Debbie) Sawyer; nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.   A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Francis at the Point Church (Point Clear). A reception will follow in the church’s fellowship hall. The Manders’ family would like to thank Dr. Martin Lester, Kindred Hospice, Shephard’s Place, his family, friends, and special care-taker, Verlanda Saffold along with Betty Childress for the love and excellent care he received.
