Wayne Elmer Steffen, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away February 13, 2021. He was 92 years of age. He was born and raised in Illinois and lived there until 1994 when he moved to Fairhope. After graduation from Glenbard High School, he started a career with Illinois Bell Telephone Company. He began as a repairman and worked his way up to Supervisor Maintenance Engineer where he was recognized for his outstanding abilities. His career also included employment by the Western Electric Defense Project and Omnifax Telautograph Corporation. He served his country in the Korean Conflict as an active member of the Army Reserve where he earned the Korean Service Ribbon, the Far Eastern Command Ribbon, and the Presidential Unit Citation with one gold star. After eight years of service, he was honorably discharged as a Sargent First Class, E6. Outside of work, Wayne was a devout Lutheran who volunteered much of his time to his church family. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed baseball, golfing, and bowling. He was well known as a family man who was very involved in the lives of his children. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay McGlasson Steffen; children, Lori Miller (Fred), David Steffen (Sandy), Jim Steffen (Holly), and Bobbi Bojarzin (Rob); grandchildren, Amy Miller, Chris Steffen, Ryan Steffen, Kenny Steffen, Abby Ware, Gavin Ware, Matthew Bojarzin, and Michael Bojarzin; three great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Monday, February 22nd at 2:30 p.m. at the Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort. Wayne will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
