COCHRANDAPHNE Joyce Simmons Cochran, 87, a native of Newton, MS, longtime resident of Saraland, and a current resident of Daphne, AL passed away on July 7, 2018. She was born on September 23, 1930. Joyce was a retired elementary school teacher who taught for over 40 years at various schools including Calcedeaver, Mount Vernon, Saraland, Pensacola and Miami. She was past president of the Woman’s Club and Sunshine Club in Saraland and was an advocate for the Saraland Public Schools and many politicians. She was a philanthropist and worked with Meals on Wheels, Bayou La Batre Hurricane relief and any many more causes. She was a graduate of Janice High School, Perkinston Junior College (basketball scholarship), and received a B.S. in education with a minor in physical education at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Alicia Cochran Spencer (John) of Spanish Fort, AL; son William Micheal Ready of Petal, MS; granddaughters. Christina Marie Spencer, Brenda Marie Ready, Angelique Delores Ready, 8 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. The family will receive friends from 10:00am-11:00am. The family will have a private prayer at 1:00 PM at graveside at Oakhill Cemetery in Atmore where she will be laid to rest next to her late sister, Sarah Fayard.
