Violet Mae Veitch, born and raised in New Orleans, peacefully passed away on February 12th at her residence at Westminster Village, Spanish Fort, Alabama. Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert Herman Veitch, and her parents John William Boynes and Irene Brechtel Boynes. She is survived by her brother Francis Joseph (Kathy) Eicke; her three daughters Cathy Louise (Randall) Veitch-Hayes, Vicky Diane Wolfe, and Nancy Kay (Joseph) Hand; her grandchildren David Alexander (Amanda) Wolfe, Chelsea Kay Harless, Kittie Elizabeth Harless, and Joseph Henry Hand, Jr., and her great-granddaughter Aubrey Violet Wolfe. She is also survived by her nieces and family in Mississippi. Violet met and married “Bob”, the love of her life, in New Orleans. They moved with their family to Huntsville for Bob’s career with NASA, where Vi pursued her love of tennis, bridge, volunteer work, gardening, lake life, and taking care of her family. After Bob’s death, Vi embraced her love for travel and visited countries all over the world with Friendship International and hiking & biking groups. Vi’s favorite place was vacationing with her family annually for the “Veitch-Eicke Beach Week” which consisted of deep-sea fishing, daily cookouts, and spending great times with family and grandchildren. Vi volunteered with Huntsville Hospice for over 12 years. She had a strong faith and belief in God and was a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Westminster Village/Willowbrook for their love and care for Vi. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Thames Valley Children’s Center at www.tvcc.on.ca in London, Ontario, which support services for her great-granddaughter or the Spanish Fort Fire Department at www.spanishfortfire.org. A celebration of Vi’s life will be held at a later date in Huntsville, Alabama.
