Fairhope

Mr. Thomas Frank Verhoestra was born on December 27, 1951, in South Bend Indiana.  He is proceeded in death by his Father Arthur Verhoestra and Mother Margaret Verhoestra.  While only having one child, Keith Verhoestra, he has 5 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren to carry on the family name.

He was a giving Father and Grandfather who always looked out for friends and family.  He had many accomplishments throughout his life, especially with sports and career.  He served in the US Army during Vietnam as an expert marksman and vehicle mechanic.  After being Honorably discharged from the service, he went on to work in electronics gaining multiple certifications and associates degrees.  He worked for a short time at Motorola but spent the majority of his career working for Alabama Power and later Gulf Power.

Tom was also an accomplished Water Skier and Runner who loved the outdoors.  Tom was well known in the local running circles, often getting up early to run in Fairhope. He was even written about in the Dear Abby column as his running group was often times chatty as they ran at 5 AM.  After he retired early, he spent most days down at the beach riding his bike on the Alabama State Park trail system.  Anyone that had time to talk to Dad knew that he was a very intelligent person that loved history.  It was his passion project to collect every WW2 DVD ever made, and we often spent many hours talking about it.  The wealth of knowledge he possessed on the subject was immense.  Often times, he enjoyed trips down to the Pensacola Naval Air Station to view the WW2 exhibits.

Dad, you will be missed more than any words I can type here will ever properly express.  Knowing that you were a Christian gives me comfort that your next journey will be an even better one.  I'll see you when I see you, until that day, love your son always!
