Thomas "Tommy" David Russo

d. March 3, 2018

Thomas David Russo, age 56, passed away suddenly on March 3, 2018. Tommy was born in New Orleans and grew up in Metairie, La. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School and Louisiana State University where he received a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He was employed by WPMI-TV in Mobile, Alabama. The outpouring of love from those he worked with has meant so much to his family. Tommy has left us with so many wonderful memories by always being the funniest person in the room. I think everyone has their own personal “Tommy Story.” He was the youngest of five kids, kind-hearted, quick-witted, and always ready to have fun. Tommy was deeply affected by losing his parents at a young age and we can find solace in knowing they’re together again. Tommy found his greatest joy when he became a dad to Ryan and Nick. He loved LSU and the Saints and his kids became huge fans too, which made him so happy. He beamed with pride when Ryan was homecoming queen and every time Nick got a touchdown! He is survived by his wife Kristine Kavanagh Russo, his children Ryan McAllister Russo and Nick Thomas Russo. He is the son of the late Marcella McAllister Russo and the late Ruben Joseph Russo. He is the son-in-law of the late Mary Gayle Kavanagh, Rose and Tom Kavanagh. He is the brother of Judy Russo Barrie, Nancy Russo Chapman, Michael Joseph Russo, and Patrick Ruben Russo. He is brother -in-law to Jeffrey Chapman, Barbara Russo, Donna Russo, the late Janice Russo, Tommy Kavanagh, Jason and Kerri Romeo, Nathan and Melissa Latil and Jenna and Myles Quave. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 11:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery. A special thanks to The Christ the King and St. Michael community for their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Rusty Cowles Scholarship Foundation through St. Michael Catholic High School.
