Thomas Patrick Smith, Jr. fondly known as T.P. (or Pap to the grandkids) of Spanish Fort, AL passed away Monday May, 11th at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope. He was 81 years young. An outdoor Christian memorial service will be held Saturday May 16th, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at the Daphne Campus of 3 Circle Church (10080 Co Rd 64). T.P. was born on October 26th, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA to Helen Coke and Thomas Patrick Smith. He attended Central Catholic High School, served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant and also attended the University of Pittsburgh. T.P. was in sales most of his life but was able to do what he truly loved once retired, be on the golf course and spend time with his family. He was head of outside operations at Barefoot Resort and Golf in North Myrtle Beach where he was also a member. He continued his love for being on the golf course at Craft Farms and Rock Creek after he moved to Alabama to be closer to his daughter, son-in-law and 2 of his grandkids following Patti his wife’s passing 6 years ago. He loved the game of golf, and most importantly the interaction with golfers and co-workers. Not only was he a golf enthusiast but loved all sports. T.P was an avid Pittsburgh Panthers, Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, and even tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team attempting to follow in the footsteps of his Uncle “Greenfield” Jimmy Smith who played shortstop for the Reds, the Giants and the Pirates. He was also a #1 fan of any sport his children or grandchildren were participating in. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife Patti, and his son Stephen. He is survived by his son Thomas P. Smith III, daughter Kerri Tarr, son-in-law Randy Tarr, sister Audrey Ifft, and 5 grandchildren Mallory (18) Taylor (18), Aiden (11), Caleb (7), and Kennedy (5). T.P. will be remembered for his fierce and undying love and loyalty to family and friends, his unparalleled love for his children and grandchildren, his exceptional story telling ability, as well as his ability to light up any room and any life he happened to walk into.
