Thelma Mae James-Scott

d. February 17, 2022

Thelma Mae James-Scott, daughter of Dennis James and Arlene Jackson was born on July 24, 1936 in Jackson, Alabama in the county of Clarke County. She was the oldest of six children bestowed upon Arlene Jackson. Thelma grew up in the Rockville community of Jackson, Alabama and moved to the Fairhope area with her family as a young girl. She attended Anna T. Jean and was a graduated of Baldwin County Training School. Thelma then started her first and only employment at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL, which later became The Marriott’s Grand Hotel. She was a faithful and beloved employee for 50+ years and was a Golden Club Member. She retired from The Marriott’s Grand Hotel in March 2000. As a young girl, Thelma accepted Christ as her Lord & Savior and was baptized at New Era Baptist Church in Fairhope, AL. Fearless and steadfast in her pursuit of a Godly life, she was an active member of New Era Baptist church for over 60+ years. She faithfully and dutifully served on the Pastor Aide Board and was a senior usher. Thelma enjoyed shopping, watching Gunsmoke and Big Valley, attending church services and watching Tyler Perry movies & shows. Her most cherished times were spent being a loving mother and doting grandmother. Known for her generosity, words of wisdom, kindness, and helpfulness; she was a staple in the Baldwin County Community. With an unyielding faith, strong bible-based work ethic and a fortitude of character and patience, Thelma has left and continues to leave her mark upon this earth. She was always the quiet in the storm, the soothing balm upon the face of pain, the forever friend in trying times, the voice of reason in a room of chaos, the yielding but unbreakable willow in the wind, a virtuous woman who gave and received love abundantly. Preceding her in death was mother Arlene “Madear” Farmer, father Dennis James, sister Dorothy Parker, brothers Cato Jackson and Vernon Jackson, daughter Rosie James and son Dennis James. She leaves to cherish her memories one surviving sister Rosa Agee of Point Clear, AL, daughters, Bessie Watkins of Daphne, AL, Annie Mary James of Fairhope, AL, one son Robert James of Mt.
