Susan Lillis Harmon, age 78, a long-time resident of Gulf Shores, AL passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Sue was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which made her, or course, a life-long Green Bay Packers fan. Sue graduated from high school is Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. It was in Wisconsin where she met her husband Bob, and his four children.
After moving to Gulf Shores, Sue and her husband Bob became avid members of the Share the Beach turtle group and regularly walked their stretch of beach at daybreak. Already an accomplished quilter, Sue founded a quilt ministry and donated dozens of quilts to Ronald McDonald House and local NICUs. She rang in an ecumenical handbell choir, was a certified United Methodist lay speaker, a Stephen’s minister, and served on the board of Servant Heart Emmaus. She volunteered weekly at the food ministry of Morgan’s Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed working in local gift and dress shops. Sue’s faith was foundational to her life. A lifelong Methodist, she became an active church member wherever she lived, serving in a variety of ministries. Most recently she became a charter member of Magnolia United Methodist in Gulf Shores. Although the onset of blindness threatened her active lifestyle, she continued participating in as many church and community functions as possible, including attending high school football games, concerts, and Blue Wahoos baseball games.
In 2009 Sue was given a gift of reconnecting with the son she had given up for adoption as an infant, Andy. They developed a meaningful connection over the last 15 years.
Sue was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Linda Barnes, two stepsons, Patrick Harmon and Michael Harmon, and her beloved spouse, Robert (Bob) Harmon. Survivors include her stepson David Robert (Bonnie) Harmon, her son Andrew (Mandy) Boehm, her siblings Heidi (Karl), Holly, Cathy (Robert) and Eric, her grandchildren Brittany Harmon and Matt Boehm, and many nieces and nephews. Sue is also survived by her church family, her Bible study group, and devoted dear friends Jim Donaldson and Cora Slade.
If people want to give gifts in Sue’s memory, the family is suggesting Share the Beach, Morgan’s Chapel Food Ministry or Magnolia UMC.
