Sivewright Ollinger Carden (Sive), 89, of Point Clear, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on March 12, 2025, surrounded by her three sons. Sive was the daughter of the late H. Leo Ollinger and Margaurite (nee Potter) Ollinger.
Sive was born and raised in Mobile and was a graduate of Bishop Toolen High School, class of 1953; and graduated from Loretto Heights College, Denver, CO, class of 1957.
Before moving back “home” to Point Clear in 1997, Sive and her late husband, John G. D. Carden resided in various locations in Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA and New York City for over 30 years. Sive and John were happily married for almost 60 years before John’s passing in 2020.
Sive lived a life rooted in love, compassion and service to others. She held family above all else. Sive was the person you could tell anything; she was a listening genius. Sive would really hear you and she would respond in kind. The youngest of seven, she was the example of presence. She made the art and work of being look easy, and had an uncanny knack for making every person she met feel loved and welcomed.
Throughout her life and many moves, Sive valued the friendship and comradery she found and fostered in each of her communities. Sive embodied her Catholic faith through her actions and not just thoughts and beliefs. By her example, she taught her sons and grandchildren the value of respect, humility and manners. Sive was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, AL, as well as countless other Catholic and service organizations.
Sive is survived by her three sons and their wives, John Jr. and Debbie Carden, of Port Clinton, OH; Timothy and Susan Carden of Port Washington, NY; and Kevin and Kim Carden of Lake Forest, IL.; by seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and by her sister, Ruth (nee Ollinger) Harwood of Mobile, AL.
Visitation followed by a funeral Mass is planned for Monday, March 17th at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope, AL at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Fairhope, AL, Little Sisters of the Poor of Mobile or The Shrine of the Holy Cross in Daphne, AL.
