Sherrie Elizabeth (Peters) Sims

September 21, 1939 — January 26, 2025

Gulf Shores

Sherrie Elizabeth (Peters) Sims, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, was born September 21, 1939, in Social Circle, Ga. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 13, and left this world to greet Him on January 26, 2025, at her home in Gulf Shores Al.

Sherrie lived her life in numerous wonderful locations including Auburn, AL, New Orleans LA, Marietta GA, Miami FL, Fort Lauderdale FL, Philadelphia PA, Silverthorne Colorado and Gulf Shores AL. She met and married her husband Tom, in November 1961.

She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Thurmond "Paw Paw" and Fannie "Lizzie" Elizabeth Hanson Peters, her brother Pete, and her sisters Lannie Demeris and Sandra.

Sherrie enjoyed numerous careers. She earned her master’s in business administration from the University of Miami and master’s in social work from Barry University, with which she established private practices in both Ft Lauderdale and Philadelphia, where she helped many clients through difficult times. She also had a realtor’s license in Ft. Lauderdale, selling homes to delighted new buyers. While living in Miami, she served for 3 years as President of the Hialeah Jr, Women’s Club, leading and managing numerous civic and charitable functions.

In 2000, she retired from her business in Philadelphia and moved with Tom to Silverthorne Colorado, living in the home they built at 9000 feet in the Rocky Mountain wilderness. They moved back south in 2014, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Sherrie is survived by her husband Tom, her two children Meris and Ted, daughters-in-law Jennifer and Cristin, and three grandchildren Jared, Rory, and Tayler.

Sherrie loved reading, travelling, snow skiing, SCUBA diving, boating, golfing with the ladies while she still could, smiling and laughter. Her smile would light an entire room. A dear friend of hers read some words from a source she could not remember but would be something Sherrie would certainly say to us: “Don't be sad or shed tears for me. I am now more alive and freer than I have ever been”.

Sherrie never met a person she didn't like. When she made a friend, that friend was for life. She would do anything to help any person in whatever need they might have.

A Celebration of Life for Sherrie will be held at the Craft Farms clubhouse in Gulf Shores beginning at 12:30pm on Sunday March 9. 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Christian Service Center at 317 Dolphin Ave, Gulf Shores, Al, 36542.
