Seth Nathaniel Murphy

d. March 28, 2025

Birmingham

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our son, Seth Nathaniel Murphy, 24, on March 28th, 2025. A beloved son, brother, fiancé and friend, Seth’s vibrant spirit and caring nature touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on May 15th, Seth was a curious soul with an unwavering passion for life. From a young age, he discovered the joy of cooking, the thrill of playing games, and hiking and kayaking with his fiancé. His love for adventure and exploration was matched only by his deep intellectual curiosity, which led him to pursue a career in psychology. A graduate of Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Seth was preparing to complete his master's degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) when his life was tragically cut short.

Seth found joy in the simple things—whether it was creating a delicious meal, enjoying a board game with friends and family, or losing himself in a good book. His love of reading and writing was a testament to his deep, introspective nature. Above all, Seth had an incredible ability to make those around him feel seen, heard, and loved. His compassion, empathy, and infectious smile made him a constant source of comfort and joy to his family and friends.

Seth was the most loving and caring son, brother and fiancé. His family meant everything to him, and he always went out of his way to support and care for those he loved. His spirit of generosity, kindness, and warmth will be deeply missed.

While his time with us was far too short, Seth’s legacy of love, adventure, and joy will continue to inspire those who knew him. He leaves behind a community of friends, family, and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory and the lasting impact he made on their lives.

Seth is survived by his parents James Patrick Murphy and Amy Maurer Murphy of Fairhope, Alabama; brothers Zachary Patrick (Meghan) Murphy of Birmingham, Alabama, Joshua Stephen Murphy (fiancé Caroline Rivers), of Fairhope, Alabama; sisters Grace Elisabeth Murphy, Caroline Therese Murphy, Ella Catherine Murphy, and Sofia Grace Murphy all of Fairhope, Alabama; fiancé Brianna Freund of Auburn Alabama; grandparents John & Phyllis Murphy of Mobile, Alabama, William & Norene Maurer of Daphne, Alabama and numerous friends and extended family members who loved him dearly. Preceding him in death was his grandmother, Kathy Maurer.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday April 2, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, Alabama. Interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to impact UAB students by giving to the UAB Community Counseling Clinic Suicide Prevention Efforts at this link and in "other" write "Seth Murphy: Community Counseling Clinic, Suicide Prevention" https://securelb.imodules.com/s/1881/giving19/interior.aspx?sid=1881&gid=3&pgid=782&cid=1996
