Sarah Burdett Alexander left this earthly realm on June 18, 2022; to receive her promise of eternal life with Jesus Christ at age 93. Sarah’s devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Sarah was born to the late William and Estell Burdett in Phenix City, Alabama on April 26, 1929. She was a bank employee in Columbus, Georgia for over 40 years, retiring from First Union Bank in Hamilton, GA. She had a passion for traveling and her most recent adventure was to Guatemala on a mission trip with her church. Sarah was blessed with a large and loving family. Sarah never remarried after the death of her husband James L. Alexander Sr., who predeceased her on December 12, 2006. She is also preceded in death by her brothers Calvin E. Burdett and James D. Burdett; and her grandson John “Pepper” Spurlock. Sarah is survived by her three children Patricia A. Polk (Charles) of Mableton, GA; James L. Alexander (Tina) of Atlanta, GA; and Richard Van Alexander of Lillian, AL. Sarah is also survived by her brother Rufus Donald Burdett of Fortson, GA and five grandchildren: Jamie Spurlock (Aimee), Granddaughter-in-law Traci Spurlock, Matt Alexander (Charlotte), Erin Wedman (Dana), Tucker Alexander, and Ashtan Gamez (Ivan); along with seven great-grandchildren: Whitt, Railey, and Adah Spurlock; William, Nickolas, and Isaac Alexander; and Jackson Wedman. Please join Sarah’s family in celebrating her life Wednesday at 2:00pm on June 22, 2022 at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA.
