Sandra Tanner Duncan, born on October 31, 1954, in Alice, Texas, passed away peacefully in Fairhope, Alabama, on November 18, 2024. Mike Duncan and Sandra Tanner met at Southern Miss while playing tennis and were married for 42 years.
Sandra was a proud graduate of Southern Miss, where her passion for education ignited a career that would inspire many. Her dedication to teaching was evident when she earned the distinguished title of STAR Teacher while working as a bookkeeper for the Clinton, Mississippi School System. Her love for the arts extended beyond the classroom, as she was also a talented artist and a devoted baton twirler.
Above all, Sandra was a loving wife, mother, and Nana. Family was everything with Sandra from helping her kids to spoiling grandchildren with love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edward Tanner and Jimmie Tanner, who instilled in her the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion.
She is survived by her husband, Michael G. Duncan; her son, Christopher J. Duncan (Somerlin) of Fairhope, AL; her daughter, Kelli Michelle Duncan Gillman (Joshua) of Robertsdale, AL; her aunt, Jane Callahan of Brandon, MS, and her beloved grandchildren, Trace Grant Duncan, Caleb Tanner Gillman, and Annalise Claire Gillman.
A visitation will be held on November 23, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at Fairhope Chapel located at 19698 S Greeno Rd, Fairhope, AL 36532. The graveside service will take place the same day at 1:00 PM at Memory Gardens of Fairhope, located at 19142 Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL 36532.
Sandra's spirit will live on through her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed. Her contributions to the lives she touched will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
