Samuel “Vernon” Agee (80) of Daphne, Alabama passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, March 22, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Agee; his daughter, Tiffany Agee; his grandson, Chase (Josie) Bahr; his brothers, Gary Agee, Mike (Ellen) Agee, and Dean (Lynn) Agee and many nieces, nephews, friends, and family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents Narval Lee and Clarice Agee; his son, Keith Agee; his brother, Thomas Agee; and his sister, June Decker.
Vernon was born in Linden, Alabama on January 6, 1944. He graduated from Demopolis High School in 1961 and attended Livingston College prior to joining the Navy. He married Nancy Davis of Demopolis in 1968. Vernon had a long career in the paper industry which took him from Alabama to Louisiana, Minnesota, and abroad, only to retire back in his home state of Alabama.
In his spare time, Vernon was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He was incredibly intelligent and shared his wisdom any time he could. He was generous and witty, and always kept everyone on their toes. Vernon was the most persistent man many would ever meet, and there is no one that could ever say he gave up on something once he set his mind to it.
Vernon was an active member of First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort and supported many charitable organizations, but particularly cared for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Funeral will be held from First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort, at 11:00am on April 2, 2024.
Visitation will be held April 1, 2024 from 5-7pm at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne, AL. Rev. Robert Baker will officiate the ceremony along with Rev. Grant Barber, Vernon’s long-time pastor and friend. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Vernon Agee.
In lieu of flowers: please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort in Vernon’s Honor. The family would like to particularly thank Vernon’s hospice nurse, Morgan, who provided remarkable care to him in his final days and became a bright spot for the family in the midst of challenging circumstances.
