Ruth Haseley Grose

March 18, 1933 — October 25, 2024

Fairhope

Ruth Haseley Grose, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, departed from this world to be with her Savior on October 25, 2024, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama. Ruth was born on March 18, 1933, in Niagara Falls, New York. She was the daughter of Erwin and Edna Haseley of Niagara Falls, New York. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Sanborn, New York. She was a homemaker for most of her life but also was a popular substitute teacher at Baker High School in Mobile in the late 1970's and early 1980's. A lifetime Lutheran, she enjoyed choir, quilting, creating German Chrismon ornaments for Christmas trees, braiding wool rugs, gardening, and water aerobics. Ruth moved to Alabama with her family in 1977 and brought her gardening wisdom with her. She made friends easily and adjusted well to living in the South. She often wore a friendly smile and offered a word of encouragement. She enjoyed cruises to Hawaii, river cruises in Europe, and visiting all 50 states and 24 countries.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of almost seventy years, Robert William Grose; her brothers-in-law Elmer Grose and James Plough; her daughter-in-law Kathleen Grose; her nephew Keith Plough; and her beloved daughter and caregiver for nearly ten years, Beth Kornmayer (Kevin). Ruth loved sending and receiving mail and was the recipient of over a hundred birthday cards for her last few birthdays. It was important for her to express her love to others via phone calls, cards, letters, and hugs. The source of this love came from her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ.

Ruth is survived by six children: Mark Grose of Yorktown Heights, New York; Elaine Grose of Winter Park, Florida; Renee Manning (James) of Silverdale, Washington; Glenn Grose (Linda) of Hillsboro, Tennessee; Julie Chadick (Lee) of Tyler, Texas; and Penny Lamonte of Chickasaw, Alabama. She is also survived by her brother, Ernest Haseley (Helen) of Niagara Falls, New York; sister Gretchen Plough of Ellicotville, New York; and sister-in-law Shirley Grose of NorthCumberland, Pennsylvania. Ruth was a loving grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Heather Lenseth (Rob); Christine Grose; Laura Grose; Colleen Wright (JP); John Kiely III (Caroline); Michael Kiely (Allison); Adam Chadick; Amy Eubanks (Paul); Andrew Chadick (Megan); Luke Lamonte (Heather); and Noah Lamonte. Her seventeen great-grandchildren and countless friends will miss her greatly.

Ruth was an avid reader of inspirational novels and enjoyed crafting, decorating for holidays, and putting together classy outfits. She has been described as "fiesty" and she was! Her friends and family will miss her pie creations, cream puffs, and rice pudding. She constructed over fifty woolen braided rugs that she created from donated wool and gave these rugs away to loved ones. She loved to sew and made many outfits for her seven children. Her hero was Martin Luther because he transcribed the Bible into German so others could read God's promises and His love for us. She dearly loved the Lord and her church, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fairhope, Alabama.

Funeral services will be on November 9, 2024, at 10:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fairhope, Alabama. The services will be followed by a luncheon at the Fellowship Hall and coffee and dessert at the farm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to Lutheran World Relief.

Next Spring, a celebration of Ruth's life will be held on March 8, 2025, at the farm. Please make plans to join us then.
