Ronald Louis Schindler Sr., known lovingly as Ron, Doc, Einstein, Mark Twain, Dad, and Daddy, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024, in Fairhope, Alabama. He was 80 years old.
Ron was born on October 12, 1944, in Garden City, Kansas, and graduated from Onaga High School in Onaga, Kansas. He remained connected to his roots, maintaining contact with his former classmates and attending every class reunion.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Laura, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He leaves behind four children: Trent, Holly, Ronald Jr., and Martha Jean, and four grandchildren, Jamison, Darby, Marcie, and Ronald III. He was brother to James, Allen, and Jacob Schindler.
Ron was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain from the United States Air Force Reserve on October 1, 1975, after previously being stationed at Edwards Air Force Base. His service there was a source of pride throughout his life.
Ron dedicated much of his life to serving Baldwin County as a kind and compassionate veterinarian. Over decades of practice, he cared for countless animals and their families, often supporting animal charities such as the Fairhope Cat Coalition. Known for his soft spot for strays, he treated and housed hundreds of cats in need.
Ron was a Mason and an active member of the community, spending his earlier years supporting the Fairhope Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.
A lifelong learner and voracious reader, Ron loved traveling and made lasting memories exploring museums, kayaking, and trying new cuisines with his children. His adventures with family reflected his passion for experiencing life to the fullest. He also enjoyed lively conversations and sharing stories with his friends at Bouch’s Cigar Shop, where he quickly became a fixture. A thoughtful and steady presence, he brought people together with his humor, kindness, and ability to listen. With both his involvement with the Cigars for Warriors charity and his regular attendance of the non-denominational “Cigar Church,” Ron blended camaraderie, service, and spirituality.
Ron’s memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
We like to think Ron is up in heaven’s cigar bar, waiting on his friends and family with a glass of bourbon, good stories, and an infinite amount of love and joy to share when we join him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Cigars for Warriors, the Baldwin County Humane Society, or the Baldwin Family Village via Bouch’s Cigar Church group.
