WESTFIELD – Ronald L. Erskine, 82, of Fairhope, Alabama, formerly of Westfield, NY passed away peacefully Thursday August 11 at the Montrose Bay nursing home following a brief illness. Ron was born August 14, 1940, in Ronceverte, WV to the late Carl and Lilian (Smith) Rizzo Erskine. Ron moved to Westfield, NY in the late 1950's working several trucking jobs and eventually coowning the family taxi business in Westfield. Ron married the love of his life, Jane Raynor in Westfield, NY September 6, 1963, and together raised their loving children Lucinda (Cindy) and Ronald Jr. In 1960, he was hired by Ajax / Renold Inc. in Westfield, NY and was a machinist there for 32 years while also owning and operating a grape vineyard. He was a hard worker and rarely experienced idle time. When he did relax he enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing and was a charter member of the Westfield Fish & Game Club. In 1990, Ron and Jane moved to Fairhope, Alabama where Ron initially worked for Southern Aluminum and then moved onto Teledyne Continental Motors, Mobile AL and retired in 2010 as Manufacturing Engineer. Throughout the years Ron enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ron and his brother Charles were a familiar pair together seen multiple times a day walking the streets the Baldwin County area easily tracking 15,000 steps a day. The brothers were inseparable. In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Jane who died November 21, 2020, his brothers Charles and Roy Erskine, and sister Jane Manning. He is survived by his daughter Cindy (Mark) Vines, of Fairhope, AL granddaughter Jennifer (Vincent) Samson, grandson Keenan Henry; and his son Ronald (Patti) Erskine Jr of Foley, AL, grandsons Robbie and Zach (Emily), great grandchildren Izabella and Blain; sister-in-law Joanna (Charles) Erskine, niece Diann (Douglas) Catlin; sister Carolyn (Frank) Gelsimino, nephew Frank (Val) Gelsimino, and nieces Lori (Eamonn) Cannon and Lucinda Gelsimino; his sister-in-law Patricia (Roy), nephews Daniel, John and Lee Erskine. At Ronald's request, all services will be held privately at a later date in West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
