Robert William Grose, age 91 of Fairhope, Alabama passed away on January 12, 2022. Robert was born February 24, 1930 in Niagara Falls, New York. He was the son of Elmer and Verna (Koller) Grose and had a brother, Elmer Junior Grose. Robert graduated in June 1948 from LaSalle High School. ON July 19, 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was selected for radio intelligence work. He was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany and his job was to monitor Russian Air Force radio transmissions. At a cousin’s wedding in 1951, he met his future wife, Ruth Elaine Haseley. They were married October 4, 1952 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Walmore, New York. They shared 69 years of marriage and raised seven children. Robert worked for Union Carbide’s Linde division Laboratories in New York and presented scientific papers at conferences in Zurich, Switzerland. He transferred to Mobile, Alabama in 1977 and retired September 30, 1988. Robert received nine U.S. patents and consulted in Paris, France for three years. Robert was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed singing in the church choir. He enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing and camping all over the United States. He enjoyed cruises to Hawaii, river cruises in Europe, and he took a trip of a lifetime to China. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Grose of Fairhope, Alabama and his seven children, Mark Grose of Yorktown heights, New York, Elaine Grose of Winter Park, Florida, Renee (James) Manning of Silverdale, Washington, Glenn (Linda) Grose of Hillsboro, Tennessee, Beth (Kevin) Kornmayer of Fairhope, Alabama, Julie (Lee) Chadick of Tyler, Texas, and Penny Lamonte of Chickasaw, Alabama. He was a loving grandfather to his eleven grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Lenseth, Christine Grose, Laura Grose, Colleen (JP) Wright, John (Caroline) Kiely III, Michael (Allison) Kiely, Adam Chadick, Amy (Paul) Eubanks, Andrew (Megan) Chadick, Luke Lamonte and Noah Lamonte and his seventeen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Elmer, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Grose, and brother-in-law, James Plough. In God’s hands you rest, in our hearts you live forever. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
