Robert C. Buchanan, Jr.

d. January 15, 2021

If you notice the Heavens shining a little brighter lately, its probably because Robert Crouch Buchanan, Jr. joined his heavenly father on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 at the age of 72. Bobby or "Buck" as many lovingly knew him, is survived by his beautiful soulmate, best friend, and wife of 52 years, Joyce. They shared a life full of love, laughter, and despite her best efforts, mischievousness. Bobby and Joyce have two daughters, Holly Barber and Leigh Smith. Together, Buck's girls enjoyed robbing him of his privacy at any chance they got and overloading him with girliness! He is also survived by his favorite fishing buddy - son in law, Charles "Boots" Smith as well as his favorite soccer player, napping partner, and best friend -Alli Belle Smith, his only granddaughter. He will be missed by many others including his sister, Susan King, his cousin & texting buddy, Martha Ann Wood, and numerous family and friends who he absolutely adored! Lastly, his "fur friends" will miss him dearly ... his cat Pocahontas and his grand dogs, Rascal and Sophie. Bobby / "Buck" lived his life to make others happy. He lit up every room he walked in with his big, genuine smile and sincere, bigger than life, personality! A LaGrange High School & LaGrange College graduate, Buck was the president of the "stump club" and gained a bachelor's degree in sociology (much to the help of his wife and daughter!). The friends Buck made in his childhood and during school never left his heart and remained a huge part of his entire life! Bobby enjoyed a 35 year career working for the State of Georgia assisting the elderly community. This fulfilling career not only allowed him to help others, it also allowed him to work with some of the best people he'd ever known! Bobby loved his work family immensely. Many may not know, he was also a legend in his own mind due to his service in the Army Reserves as a 91A 10 Basic Combat Medic. This accomplishment was one he enjoyed reminding his family of constantly! After his retirement, Bobby and Joyce chased their dreams all the way to the Gulf Coast and settled into a peaceful life on the bay in Elberta, Alabama. One of the biggest accomplishments later in Buck's life was spending the last 13 years of his life in sobriety. The Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon programs brought so much peace and joy to his life and introduced him to a family that is continuing to shower their love and blessings on his own family. Buck will be missed by all but will live on forever in the hearts and memories of everyone he met! Due to the Covid pandemic, a celebration of life will be planned for this summer in both LaGrange, Georgia and Elberta, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to any AA organization or a simple act of kindness in Buck's honor will be greatly appreciated!
