Robert Bryden (Bob) Callahan, 91, of Pt. Clear, AL, passed away on March 18, 2019. Bob was born on July 4, 1927 in East Orange, NJ, to Eric Frank and Marion Bryden Callahan. Mr. Callahan graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Mt Lebanon, PA, and enlisted in the Navy following graduation. Following an Honorable discharge at the end of WW II, he enrolled in Birmingham-Southern College. While at Birmingham-Southern, he lettered in both baseball and in basketball. His social fraternity was Kappa Alpha. At Birmingham-Southern he met his future wife Virginia Crider on a “Blind Date” to a Halloween party. They married following his graduation and were blessed with 70 years of marriage. Callahan pursued a career in sales with companies such as RCA, General Electric, Westinghouse, and North American Telephone. On April 1, 1976, he formed Callahan and Associates, Inc., a telecommunications consulting firm located in Fairhope, Alabama. He retired from C&A in 2013 at the age of 86. Bob found great pride in his work as a Sunday school teacher and service to the Presbyterian Church as a deacon, elder, and occasionally lay preacher. He was able to participate for nearly twenty years in Dr. John H. Leith’s Colloquium. As a result of his Bible study, Bob authored an eight-volume commentary on the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians, Walking With Jesus published in 2011. Over the years Bob maintained an avid interest in sports and treasured the camaraderie and competition he found on the golf course. He was also a passionate gardener with particular pride in his collection of camellias that created a wonderland of blooms in his yard each winter. It will be with joy that his family remembers the many cookouts Ginger and Bob provided them in their backyard with Bob at the grill turning pieces of chicken at carefully timed intervals! Bob leaves his loving wife Ginger and their four children: Bobby (Maria); Karen Myrick (Paul); Lisa Dahle (Craig); and Mark (Lindy). All reside in Fairhope. He has 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three siblings: Dick (Nancy) Callahan of Southbury, CT; Dr. Donald (Barb) Callahan of Mendham Twp., NJ; and Ms. Pat Callahan Parillo of Mendham Twp., NJ. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Trinity Hall following the service. A private graveside will be held at Colony Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Exceptional Foundation of the Gulf Coast at P.O. Box 1267, Fairhope, AL. 36533, or another charity of one’s choice.
