Robert David Alexander

Robert David Alexander, known affectionately to his friends and family as David, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and educator whose life touched countless individuals over his 82 years. David was born on February 4, 1942, to Charles W. Alexander and Olga Roma Stolf in Belize, British Honduras, Central America. He migrated to the United States when he was only 2 years old and became a naturalized citizen the same year he graduated from Murphy High School class of 1960. He then embarked on a journey that would ultimately lead him to share his knowledge and passion for learning.

David proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965, as a Machinist Mate stationed on the U.S.S. Coral Sea as part of the Seventh Fleet. This experience further shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for service and commitment.

Following his service, David pursued technical training at Southwest State Technical School, specializing in air conditioning and refrigeration. He worked in this field for many years before deciding to further his education. David studied Education at Faulkner State Junior College and later attended Athens State University, where he refined his skills and knowledge.

Upon graduating with a degree in Education, David began his career as an air conditioning and refrigeration instructor at Southwest State Technical College. He continued his teaching journey as the institution evolved into what is now known as Bishop State Community College. David dedicated many years to teaching and mentoring students before retiring from Bishop State Community College, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge and expertise in his field.

Outside of his professional life, David found joy in nature, sharing memorable times on the beach or on the water, as well as during hunting excursions. He was known for his love of fishing and his adventurous spirit, which he shared with family and friends alike.

David enjoyed working with his hands on many projects from his hunting camp to his beach home in Orange Beach, AL. There was no task too great or too small for him! Although he suffered a spinal cord injury over 20 years ago, it never slowed him down!

David passed away on September 26, 2024, at USA Health University Hospital in Mobile, AL surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandra Hudson Alexander; his daughter, Lisa Renée Lewis; his son, Robert D. Alexander, Jr. (Angie); grandsons, Shane Darrell Lewis, Brandon Matthew Lewis (April Mae), Derrek Randall Lewis; granddaughters, Katie Kemp (Donny), Courteney Breit (Brandon), Kelly Alexander, Kylie Alexander; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry Alexander (Faye), Philip Alexander, and Richard Alexander (Julie).

David was preceded in death by his father, Charles W. Alexander; his mother, Olga Roma Stolf; and his brother, James Alexander.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the visitation and mass held at Christ The King in Daphne, Alabama, on October 4, 2024. Visitation will be from 10-11am and mass at 11:00; followed by a graveside service at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort. David’s legacy of kindness, mentorship, and love will live on in the hearts of those he has left behind.
