Richard Joseph Mueller, 79, a resident of Daphne, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Richard was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa. His parents were Alice and Julius Mueller. He was a member of The Sacred Heart Church. He graduated from St. Edmund High School in 1960. He went to Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin for three years for Journalism and History and one year at The University of Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S Air Force serving in 1964-1968. Richard was the founder of Paul Revere’s Pizza in Iowa with his brother Tom in 1975. From then on he also helped open and operate various pizza operations in: Georgia, Montana, Missouri, and Florida. When Richard was living in San Antonio, Texas, where he re-associated with his brother Tom and helped him with his Paul Revere’s Pizza operation. Presently as of today, the franchise of Paul Revere’s Pizza is still going strong operated and owned by his brother-in-law Larry Schuster and his son Jeff. Richard was an award-winning writer for the Florida Writer’s Association Humor in 2002. He received a trophy for his “Hawkeye Days” Collection of Short Stories which was basically a series of vignettes about growing up in Fort Dodge, Iowa during the 50’s. These stories were also published in a Fort Dodge magazine. Most of these stories received “Recognized” or “All-Time Best” status awards from his fellow authors at Fanstory.com. From 2009-2014 Richard owned and operated Pelican Pete’s Snow-Cones which was located in Port Aransas, Texas. He was a member of the Port Aransas Pens Writer’s Group. A Collorabative Group effort, with his help, established a book “Texas Island Style” which included “poems, short stories, and song lyrics.” He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church starting in 2017. His favorite prayers were The Devine Chaplet and The Holy Rosary. Richard was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus there. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Mueller of Daphne; his sons, Peter Mueller of Daphne and Patrick Mueller of Roswell, Georgia; his daughter, Alice Mueller of Sandy Springs, Georgia; his brother, Tom Mueller of Grinnel, Iowa; and sister, Merrianne Kenney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; granddaughter, Isabella Mueller of Mobile, and his cousin, Kay Zimmer. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Daphne, from 10:00 until 11:00 am with prayers and mass at 11:00am. Services can also be viewed live at www.ctkdaphne.org. Interment will follow at The Alabama State Veteran’s Cemetery, Spanish Fort.
