Pleasant Jesse Church, Jr.

Pleasant Jesse Church, Jr., age 89, was born on September 4, 1931, in Moorhead, Mississippi to Pleasant Jesse Church, Sr. and Coallie (Woodruff) Church. He passed away peacefully and entered into the loving arms of his Savior on Monday, February 15, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Summerdale, Alabama, after his courageous battle with cancer. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Virginia (Boothe) Church on May 28, 1953. They had three children, Steven Andrew, David Gregory and Karen Ruth. He was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Japan during Korean War. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1950. He retired from Scott Paper Company in Mobile, Alabama, where he was employed for almost 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pleasant Jesse Church, Sr. and Coallie (Woodruff) Church, his beloved wife of 67 years, Carolyn Virginia (Boothe) Church, his eldest son, Steven Andrew Church, and two sisters, Carolyn Jones and Marguerite Beard. Mr. Church is survived by his son, David Church (Georgia); daughter, Karen Flowers (Kenneth); grandchildren, Carla Bundy, Amanda Lopez, Nathan Church, Kimberly Anderson, Jessica Stokes and 10 great grandchildren and his sister, Claudine Boland, all of whom loved him dearly. Pleasant talked about and looked forward to the day that he would be with his Lord and Savior. He was a gentle, compassionate and loving man who adored his family. He was loved and will be sorely missed. Services will be held at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, Alabama on Friday, February 19th with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and service following at 2:00 pm.
