Phyllis (Go-Go) Maurice Mitchell Craven Lawrence Born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 13, 1917 to Freddie Bennett and Jennings Bailey Mitchell, died in Spanish Fort, Alabama on July 13, 2017. She is predeceased by her parents, sister, Emily Mitchell Carlisle, brother, Jennings Bailey Mitchell, Jr., and grandson Layne Mitchell West. She is survived by her daughter Connie Craven Cotton (Stan)of Daphne, AL; granddaughter, Ashley Dell West of Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren, Reagan Olivia, Drake Alexander and Sullivan Archer West of Charleston SC; nephew Wally Carlisle (Virginia) and niece Linda Boyer of Birmingham, Al; plus many nieces and nephews, of the great and great-great variety. Go-Go, as she was called by her grandchildren and friends, lived in Birmingham, Alabama until 1993 when she moved to Spanish Fort to be near her daughter. She worked as a statistician for Southern Company until she was 70 years old. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and First Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Go-Go’s joy of life touched many people. She loved playing bridge with her many new friends in Baldwin County. She volunteered at Mobile Infirmary making puppets and stuffed animals for the children. She was a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank all the ladies who made sure she was able to continue playing bridge and meet with her lunch buddies once she could no longer drive. The family also requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, the Humane Society or the charity of your choice.
