Philistine confessed a hope in Christ at an early age while attending Lebanon Chapel A. M. E. Church in Fairhope, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Anna T. Jean Elementary School and Baldwin County Training School where she made and fostered many lifelong friendships. In 1955, as part of the Great Northward Migration, she moved to LaGrange, IL and stayed with her cousin Amanda Davis. Philistine met her future husband, George in LaGrange, IL. They were married February 17, 1957 and lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL where they had four sons. The family attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church on the South Side of Chicago, IL under the leadership of their friend Reverend J.J. Taylor. In 1973, they moved to Atlanta Georgia. “Phil”, as she was affectionately called by her coworkers at K-Mart and Mrs. Floyd throughout the neighborhood and community by her AVON clients, was very much loved and respected for her kind and caring heart. The family returned to Chicago, IL in 1977. Philistine retired in 1999 and found a new freedom and joy in traveling; she enjoyed traveling the County and visited many beautiful and unique places (the West Wing of the White House) as well as traveling the world (as far away as Japan) to visit friends and family. She was truly devoted to her faith and belief in Christ. In her later years, while recovering from illnesses at the Convalescent Home founded by First Church of Deliverance, she found a new church home at First Church of Deliverance. She faithfully attended until heath failed but still found a way to attend and walk and dance the aisles. In her final days, when she could not attend for extended periods, Reverend Clarence Dumas and Reverend James R. Bryson, Jr. were able to visit her. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants. Psalm 116:15 The funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday May 1, 2020 at First Church of Deliverance, Pastor James R.
