BENTON
FAIRHOPE, ALABAMA
Paul Thomas Benton, 63, of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly early in the morning of Monday, June 27, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Benton, son, Matthew Benton (Brittany Miller) of Tampa, Florida, daughter, Jennifer Benton, of Foley, Alabama, daughter, Madison Benton, of Fairhope, Alabama, his former wife, Patsy Benton, of Foley, Alabama, and one sister, Donna Witt (Chris Witt), of Davie Florida.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Benton, his stepfather, Keith Benton, his father, Paul Zweil, and his brother, Mike Benton.
Paul was born in Miami, Florida on January 1, 1959 and attended Hollywood Christian Academy. Paul spent the first 20 years of his professional career as a store manager in the building materials industry. He later transitioned to a salesman for 84 Lumber, where he built life-long relationships with his customers and coworkers. Paul helped rebuild many communities after devastating hurricanes alongside the crew at Arbor Construction, solidifying their place in his heart as family. He retired in 2020 when he suffered a debilitating stroke. He spent the next two years working very diligently on his recovery, making great strides until his death, with the help of his kind and patient physical therapists and family members. Paul was well-known by all that knew him for his love of the outdoors, especially fishing. He spent countless hours working on his yard or his boat. This love of fishing he imparted on his three children, and many weekends during red snapper season were spent in the Gulf of Mexico, teaching them how to love and appreciate the beauty of the gulf. His love of the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family. Paul was a calm, steady force in his children’s lives, and was always ready to listen and give advice without judgment. His children only ever knew him as their best friend, and they could always depend on him no matter how hard the situation was. He had a deep love for animals, as well, and his pet dogs were his best friends, and he would spoil them with whatever food or toys they wanted. He had a gentle soul, and always made sure his loved ones were safe and happy, and would always put those he cared about before himself.
The memorial service will be held on July 9, 2022 in the chapel at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL. The visitation will be from 10-11, and the service will be from 11-12. Friends and family are invited to join the family at Paul and Stephanie’s home for a small reception after the service. They will be scattering Paul’s ashes at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paul’s name to: Gulf Coast Preservation Society at Gulfpreserve.org.
