Patsy Pose Miller, age 91, entered eternal life on December 20, 2021. When she was a little girl she asked her Daddy (Percy) where she came from. He told her that he had been oystering on the Point Clear reef on a cold February 5th, 1930 morning. When he was rowing in, he saw a pelican leave a bundle on a post. He rowed over and got the bundle and found her wrapped inside. He took her home and her mother (Mae) and her sister (Ethel) loved her so much. She grew up on the bay in Point Clear fishing, crabbing and going to Jubilees. She married H.J. Miller and moved to Fairhope in 1948 and lived at 6 White Avenue until they purchased the home across the street on the bay in 1965. She continued to fish, crab, soft shell and go to Jubilees. She taught many children how to throw a cast net, how to shed a crab and how to take care of her bay. She became known as the Queen of the Bay. Her passion was throwing a cast net for shrimp which she did until she was 88. Her prize catch was 24 pounds in one throw! She was preceded in death by her husband H.J.; children Johnny and infant Margaret; brothers Joe and Percy Pose Jr.; sisters Doris Bishop and Ethel Sanca with whom she fished, crabbed and shrimped. She is survived by her daughters Lynn Tate and Jacque McCants (Plug); 2 grandsons Lee Tate and Finn Miller McCants; sister Rosalie Currier (Alfred); brother Emmanuel Pose; her daughter-in-law Melissa Pershina and her husband John; and her faithful companions Max and Mary Louise. She loved the old saying “Fishermen (shrimpers) never die they just become pelicans and fly.” She would tell her grandsons to wave whenever they saw a pelican fly over the house—it may be her. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Shrine of the Holy Cross in Montrose on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 am.
