Mildred Walker Hanson, b. March 4, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, AL, passed away April 14, 2020. Daughter of the late Alvin B. and Margaret Forte Walker, Mildred grew up in Calvert and Atmore, AL where she enjoyed happy years. In her later life, she was an early member of The Barnes Boys Reunion Group. While living in Atmore, Mildred created a First Methodist Church group called, “The Joy Riders”, a group created so older members could take day trips to other towns. They traveled in a bus that Mildred’s family owned. Mildred was an accomplished florist and artist and made it her lifelong career. For many years she was co-owner, with her sister Betty Raley, of Barton Flower Shop in Atmore, Al. Later, she started The Lazy Daisy Flower Shop in Gulf Shores. AL. Mildred sang alto in every Methodist Church that she belonged to since childhood. In her retirement years, Mildred volunteered in many organizations working behind the scenes: the Fort Morgan Living History Program, the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary, where she was a founding member, The First United Methodist Church and an original Election Day Poll Worker for Ft. Morgan area. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Marion “Bubba” Hanson, brother, Dennis Walker and sisters, Edith W. Cobb and Carolyn W. Davidson. She is survived by her sister, Betty W. Raley, Atmore, AL; daughter, Marlene Nall Johnt (James W.), Gulf Shores and much loved granddaughter, Alaina M. Harris, Washington, D.C.; she also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews who will miss her. Graveside service for close family members will be held at the Shell Banks Baptist Church Cemetery in Gulf Shores, AL.
