Michael Douglas Florkiewicz

Michael Douglas Florkiewicz “Florky”, age 58, a resident of Daphne, Alabama, completed his cholangiocarcinoma journey on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

He was a loving husband, father of two and was always willing to help others and his community. 

Michael was born June 13, 1964, in Staten Island, New York, to John “Ski” and Carolyn Florkiewicz. He moved to Mobile to attend the University of South Alabama in 1982. He ultimately received a degree in Computer Science. He was an infantryman with the US Army until he was medically discharged in 1985. He also retired from the USPS. He was an active member, as well as Deputy Chief of the Belforest Volunteer Fire Department, and owned an IT business.

On July 24, 2004, he married Susan Rutherford Florkiewicz. They raised two children, James Florkiewicz and Caroline West. Michael was known as someone who could fix and build anything, and would always be there to help others. He was outgoing, fiercely loyal, and cared deeply for his family and friends. 

Michael was preceded in death by his father, John “Ski”, and his brother Matthew. He is survived by his wife Susan; his children, James (Jordan) Florkiewicz and Caroline (Austin) West; his mother, Carolyn; his brother, John; his sisters, Karen and Mary; and his nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne Chapel Sunday, September 25, 2022, from 5:00-7:00pm.

A small service will be held at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne, Monday, September 26, 2022, at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside service at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
