SANDERS GULF SHORES, AL Melinda Wilson Sanders, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister peacefully went to be with the Lord, Monday, March 9, 2020. Melinda was born to James and Florrie Bell Wilson on December 19th, 1938. A native of Coffee County, AL, she graduated from the New Brockton High School and later went to graduate from Troy State University with a Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education. Melinda was one of the first women on the Troy State University track team and was crowned Miss National Peanut Festival. In 1983, Melinda was appointed to the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling by Governor Fob James where she faithfully served the people of Alabama. Melinda truly lived her life to the fullest. She treasured spending time with her family and loved ones and embraced every moment with them. Melinda was welcomed to heaven by her parents, James and Florrie Bell Wilson, and her brother, Dan Wilson. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Johnny Sanders of Gulf Shores,Al; children, Chris (Tammy) Sanders of Troy, Al, Melanie S. (Anthony) Cacioppo of Gulf Shores, Al; grandchildren, Blake (Jasmine) Sanders, Parker (Kayla) Sanders, Shayna Turner; great grandchildren, Kohen Sanders, Luca Sanders, Beckham Sanders; siblings Martha Becker, Ben F. Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews and many other friends and relatives. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and recent State of Emergency issued by the State of Alabama, the family has decided to follow the CDCs guidance and postpone Melinda's Celebration of Life that was originally planned for Saturday, March 21st.
