Max Elwyn Johnson

d. January 2, 2021

Max Elwyn Johnson, revered grandfather, steadfast father, beloved husband, and servant of Christ, answered God's call to come home on January 2, 2021. A gentle soul as full of years as he was full of life, Max was blessed to be survived by Sharon, his wife of 65 years; his daughters Patricia Lynn Sharp (Wayne) and Linda Elaine Dealy (Dan); five grandchildren Amy Christian, Melissa Morales, Justin, Jessica and Connor Dealy; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Born July 5th, 1931, to Otto and Luella Johnson, Max was raised in Pearl City, IL. After high school, Max served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, stationed in Jacksonville, FL and Keflavick, Iceland. It was in Jacksonville, FL that Max first met his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. A few days later on a blind date (set up by four of the girls at the church) he met the one love of his life, Sharon Hendricks. Except for his time in Iceland, Max and Sharon were never apart again. Max went on to a career in telephone communications, eventually managing a department of technicians. As proud as he was of his years in the Navy, and his career in the technology of his day, Max‘s greatest joy was serving God through 65 years of devout worship. Max helped the re-building of three sanctuaries and attendant facilities in Miami, Jacksonville, FL, and Fairhope, AL. He was elected a Deacon in the Baptist Church, and served many administrative posts in the church through his long and busy life. He loved time with family and friends and will always be remembered as somewhat of a card shark! This world was blessed by God's great plan to share with us Max Elywn Johnson, a quiet, simple man who dearly loved his wife and family. He will be missed here, and waits to welcome us again. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at First Baptist Church, Fairhope, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will be held.
