Marylyn Whitfield Irving

Marylyn Whitfield Irving, age 94, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama and former resident of both Pascagoula Mississippi, and San Diego California passed away on Friday April 23, 2022. Marylyn was surrounded by all her children and son and daughter in law in her final days. Marylyn was preceded in death by her husband Albert (Al) Joseph Irving Jr., in 2010. Marylyn and Al were married in Bremerton Washington on June 30th 1951, where Al was stationed in the Navy. Shortly after their marriage, Marylyn and Al moved to San Diego California where they raised their family for many years. Marylyn is survived by her children and son and daughter in law: Anne Irving and Howard Clearman of Fairhope, Timothy and Margaret Irving of San Diego, and Alicia Irving of New York. Marylyn cherished her three grandchildren, Dylan Irving, Abigail Irving, and Rachel Irving of California. Marylyn was the daughter of Rufus Whitfield and Gladys Davis Whitfield of Pascagoula. Marylyn was the eldest of five siblings; Rufus Jr., Claire, Gloria, and Evan. Marylyn is survived by her sister Gloria who is a resident of Mobile as well as eight nieces and nephews in Spanish Fort, Mobile, Pascagoula, Georgia and Texas. Marylyn is also survived by many cherished friends and extended family in the San Diego area. Marylyn was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne since moving to Fairhope in 2014 with her daughter Anne Irving and son-in law Howard Clearman. Marylyn was born in Arkansas in 1927, and grew up in Pascagoula Mississippi where she graduated from Pascagoula HS in 1945. While living in San Diego Marylyn enjoyed a long and varied career in office accounting and publishing working for ITT Corporation, Coca-Cola Bottling company, Bannister Steel, and Harcourt Brace Publishing company. Marylyn was an avid reader and gardener and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her family and friends over the years. Most of all she enjoyed time with her beloved family who will miss her dearly. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 29th 2022, at 11:00 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Krebs cemetery in Pascagoula where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Al.
