Mary Ann Hubbard Shelton, 82, a resident of Danville, Virginia passed away on March 25, 2021 in Fairhope, AL . Mary Ann was born July 8, 1938 in Danville, daughter to Percy and Frances Hubbard. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and Stratford College. She was married to James Shelton, Jr. from 1961 until his death in 1993. A devoted teacher, Mary Ann taught first at Dan River High School, was a busy and popular substitute teacher for years after and ended her teaching career as a Pre K teacher’s aide at GLH Johnson school. A lifelong resident of Danville, Mary Ann was a very active and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities throughout the years. She was recognized in 2020 with an Honorary Life Membership for years of service in Women of the Church, PCUSA. In addition, she was an active member of the Sutherlin Court neighborhood association. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wendy Shelton of Fairhope, AL and her beloved grandsons, James and Charlie Shelton, both of Huntsville, AL. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and neighbors who brought her great joy and friendship throughout her life. She will be remembered for always being on the go. Day trips to Greensboro, NC were a favorite activity as were trips to Alabama to watch and celebrate the accomplishments of her grandsons. She was a great friend and neighbor and a wonderful mother and grandmother. Mary Ann will be laid to rest beside her husband in Danville at a time to be determined.
