Mary “Mickey” Brobston Cleverdon, of Point Clear, Alabama, passed away on September 13, 2018, at the age of 85. Mickey is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, John Cleverdon, her sister Linnie Mae Griffis, her brother Ed Brobston, her children Jo Ann (Neal) Yates, Geoffrey Cleverdon, Edwin (Amy) Cleverdon, and John (Beverly) Cleverdon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mickey was born in Tampa, Florida, grew up in Bessemer, Alabama, and lived for many years in Mobile, Alabama, before moving to Point Clear. She studied at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and at the University of Alabama. She taught English and Literature at Jacksonville State University, the University of South Alabama, Bishop State Community College, and Spring Hill College.Mickey was a poet, with poems published in various poetry journals and anthologies. She and her husband John published Questions of Form, a chapbook of Mickey's poems and John’s woodcut prints, and they subsequently presented a show featuring later poems and woodcuts at the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship Gallery. Mickey also collaborated with artist Jo Patton in a show at the Eastern Shore Art Center, “Wharfs and Words.” She was an avid reader and active member of several book clubs. Mickey was also an accomplished musician, teaching piano for many years and playing harpsichord and recorder in local ensembles. A memorial service for Mickey will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Mobile, Alabama, on September 29, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
