Mary Kay Williams

d. July 14, 2018

Mary Kay Williams, a longtime resident of Mobile, and Daphne, Alabama, passed away peacefully on the beach of Mobile Bay with her faithful dog Boston by her side on Saturday July 14, 2018. Kay was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama.  She was the daughter of the late Edward Horst Haas and the late Mary Agnes Johnston.  Kay was married to her husband the late Joe Williams for 53 years until his death in December of 2010.  She is survived by her son Joseph D. Williams “Jody” and his wife Jill, her twin daughters Leigh Ann Babin and her husband T.J. Babin, and Lynn Williams Cook, and her five grandchildren and two great grandsons, Austin S. Prator and wife Jeannette, Brittany Prator Weaver and her husband Brian and their son Wesley, Bonnie Douglas and her husband Lee and their son Jason, Dillon Williams, Katelyn Williams and Nelson McArthur; half-sister, Rochelle Flowers, and half-brother Edward Haas and a host  of other loving relatives and friends. Kay spent her early years on Dauphin Street in Mobile and at Point Clear on Mobile Bay at the home of her uncle David W. MacKay. Kay attended Convent of Mercy and Bishop Toolen Catholic High School for Girls.  She graduated in 1956 from Bishop Toolen and then attended the University of Alabama.  Kay studied early childhood education at the university.  When Kay was home from college due to contracting the Asiatic flu, she met Joe Williams.  They married in 1959 in Mobile, Alabama.  They moved to Dauphin St. into her family home and then had Jody and just 21 months later had their twin daughters Leigh and Lynn.  After the twins were born they moved to Kay’s Uncle’s home in Point Clear. Joe and Kay Williams were active members of St Lawrence Catholic church for many years until they moved from Point Clear to Daphne in 2004.  They then became members of Christ the King church in Daphne. Kay spent many a day on the shores of Mobile Bay, racing boats as a teenager, learning to fish, crab and throw a cast net.   After her 3 children were born she spent her days teaching them all about the life of living in paradise on Mobile Bay.  Kays happy place was on the water or by the waters of Mobile Bay and so it seemed like a perfect place to spend her last moments on this earth sitting on the beach with her faithful dog Boston by her side. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1 pm at Christ the Kind Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. A reception will follow Mass at the home of Jody and Jill Williams, 6403 Captains Lane, Daphne. Interment will be at a later date at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
