Mary Joan “Jo Anne” Kichler, born 10/28/1935 and a resident of Elberta, Alabama, passed away on September 19, 2023, at the age of 87. Jo Anne was married 63 years to her husband, Charles. She owned and managed Charlie’s Quick Stop, where kids from all over town would stop by for some soft-serve ice cream. Jo Ann enjoyed cooking and preparing daily lunches. You could anticipate guests stopping by to pull up a chair and enjoy part of the large table spread. An active member of the Elberta First Baptist Church, Jo Anne passionately led the children’s moment at the beginning of church service, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and helped with many Christmas Programs. Mary Joan is preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Kichler, great-grandson Hayden Caldwell, parents Virgil (Alta) Scales and Mary (Clyde) Weinhold, and a sister Betty Alms. Mary Joan is survived by three children Jerald (Teresa) Kichler, Janice (George) Woerner, and Ronald (Laura) Kichler; ten grandchildren Angela Woerner, Christina (Timothy) McInnis, Kelli (Evan) Reid, Staci Kichler, Kimberly (Jeremy) Bailey, Allen (Nicole) Woerner, Kandace (Nickolas Long) Kichler, Kayla (Nicholas) Knoepflein, Kyleigh Kichler, and Kody Kichler; thirteen great-grandchildren Ella and Maddox Caldwell, Lillie, Georgia, Charlee Anne and Timothy Neal McInnis, Brooklyn and Beau Bailey, Katherine, William and Pilot Woerner, and Charlie and Camden Long; three siblings Robert (Charletta) Scales, William Scales, and Meta Alms. She will be forever loved and missed by many friends and family. The family would like to thank all the nurses, along with caregivers from Nanny’s Care, Visiting Angels, Home Care Companions, Amedisys, and Gentiva Hospice. Funeral services will be held graveside at Elberta Public Cemetery on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00 a.m.
