Mary Ann West Corte, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, December 23, 2024,
Born July 22, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, Mary Ann was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Beall West (Mary Frances Carter). Mary Ann was one of four children: Mary Ann (Julio), Jack, Lynn (Johnny), and Debbie (Dan).
Mary Ann attended Toolen High School before studying at Auburn University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She left school early to come home and marry Julio Corte, Jr. In 1961, they began their life together in Baldwin County on Corte Farms. December 30, 2024, marks their 63rd anniversary.
Mary Ann and Julio raised three children: Julie Bierster (Tom), Ann West (JD), and Julio “Jay” Corte, III (Stephanie). Mary Ann was always active in their lives and attended endless events throughout their younger years.
Mary Ann adored all of her grandchildren and treasured her time being their “Mary” or “MiMi.” She loved traveling with her grandkids and made sure that milestones in their lives were celebrated with wonderful adventures. Chip (Lauren), Corte, Mary Frances, Catherine, Lauren, Jay (Whitfield) and Hallie plus two great grandchildren on the way.
She had so many “best” friends who were with her through thick and thin for all of her adult life. They were inseparable and the love and bonds they shared will live on.
Mary Ann was passionate about her career in retail and was the owner of Uptown Inc in downtown Fairhope for nearly 30 years. She took great pride in making sure her clients had the perfect outfits for whatever event they were attending. She will be remembered for her exceptional sense of fashion. She helped pave the way in Fairhope for a more upscale shopping experience and was well known in the downtown community.
She was a member of Christ the King Church in Daphne when the kids were young and later became an active member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Foley.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Beall West and her brother, John Warren “Jack” West. She is survived by her husband, Julio Corte, Jr, her children, Julie, Ann, and Jay, and her sisters, Lynn and Debbie.
Services will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11 AM at Christ the King Church in Daphne with visitation prior (9 AM -11 AM) in the Immaculata Center.
The family has requested donations be made to Pilots for Christ, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
