Mary Olive Scrushy Bruner passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 90. Born in Grady, Alabama, Mary lived in nearby Selma most of her life until 2012 when she retired in Fairhope to be near her sister Millicent McGee. Amazingly, Millicent “Sista” died also on the same Easter weekend at the age of 92, just two days after her younger sister, Mary. An avid bridge player until the week of her death, Mary was passionate about her flower garden, delighted in her children and grandchildren, and was devoted to her Lord. Survivors include two daughters, Lenora Bruner Nearen and Judith Bruner Watson (Kelly); grandchildren, Douglas Brian Blank, II (Kate) and Mary Alexandra Blank; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Blank; sister, Margaret Rose Scrushy Ford; and brothers, George Edwin Scrushy and Jack Mansel Scrushy. Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Charles Bruner, Jr.; infant twin sons; parents, George Marin Scrushy and Margaret Maude Mansel; and brothers Gerald Marin Scrushy, William Rex Scrushy, and Richard Thomas Scrushy A celebration service will be held at Wolfe Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope on Thursday afternoon, April 20, at 4:00 preceded by a visitation at 3:00. The graveside service will be in Selma, Alabama on Friday, April 21 at 1:00 pm at New Live Oak Cemetery.
