Mark John Sekas

d. August 5, 2022

Mark John Sekas, 86, of Fairhope, sadly passed away at home on August 5th with family by his side. A private funeral was held on Saturday, August 13th at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. Born on November 15, 1935 in Thessaloniki, Greece, Mark was the eldest son of the late John and Irene (Kayaivi) Sekas. At age 18, he left his home in Greece to attend college in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mark married Lois (Little) and had three children: Maria, John and Helen. The family moved to Fairhope in 1965, where he made his lifelong home. Mark also maintained a residence in Panorama, Greece where he enjoyed regular visits spending time with his brother Alkis, his extended family, and many friends. Mark and his second wife, Carol, enjoyed traveling extensively throughout much of Europe during their more than 30 years of marriage. Mark’s love of sailing took them on many adventures, including a transatlantic crossing on his sailboat, The Blue Aegean II, where he fulfilled his dream of sailing from the United States back to his hometown, Thessaloniki. Mark will be remembered fondly by many as “Baba”; the strong Greek who was passionate about many things, including his business, Sekas Process Equipment, which he started in 1974. Mark never stopped working and taking care of his customers; he loved his work. He also loved being in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for his family and friends, and, of course, Greek food was his specialty. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene, and his sister, Vagilitsa Diamandis. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Carol, children Maria Sekas Adams (Clay), John Sekas (Erin), and Helen Sekas Graham, brother Alkis Sekas (Annie), grandchildren Sean Sekas (Emily), Hayes Adams Hunt (Collin), Ashley Graham McDuffie (Cal), Nick Sekas, John Graham and Grey Adams, four great-grandsons, and his nieces and nephew. Mark will be greatly missed, but his life brought fulfillment to his family and those who crossed his path along the way. Rest in peace, Baba. We love you.
