Mark Edwin Burdine, age 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 9, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Joan (Rhoden) Burdine. He is survived by his brothers, J. Michael Burdine (Patsy) and Sean Burdine (Carol), as well as two beloved nieces, Alyssa Burdine and Rachelle Burdine.
Mark was born and raised in Lafayette, LA. He had a long career at Lafayette Lanes Bowling Alley and was a fixture at Red Lerille’s Health Club, where he loved to swim and socialize with friends. He attended the First Special Olympics World Winter Games 1977 in Steamboat Springs, CO and participated in swimming at the Fifth International Special Olympics Summer Games in New York in 1979, winning a Silver Medal.
Known for his love of LSU sports and the New Orleans Saints, Mark always kept friends and family up to date with the latest college and professional athletic news. He also enjoyed visiting Disney World and Universal Studios with his nieces. He made friends with everyone he met, just like his Mom. Mark enjoyed holidays and celebrations, where he loved to make toasts to family and friends. After his retirement, he resided in Baton Rouge with family for the last 10 years, where he loved dining out with his good friends, Andrea and Richard.
Mark was a loyal friend, had a kind soul and sweet spirit. We celebrate our one-of-a-kind brother and friend and take solace in the memories of a life lived in happiness, simplicity and love.
