Marilyn Ruth (Schlafer) Kinsey

d. February 19, 2021

Marilyn Ruth Kinsey of Foley, Alabama, was called home on Friday, February 19th, 2021, surrounded by her children and family at home. She was born August 15th, 1936, in Viroqua, Wisconsin, to Myron and Margaret Schlafer. Marilyn’s family ties include her children- Robert (Linda H.)Kinsey, Vicki (Randy) Mercer, Jodi Rick)Wonser, Kelli D. Kinsey, Wendi (Willis L.)Kinsey, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, Brother Mark Schlafer, Sister Marlene Anderson, Beloved sisters and brother-in-laws, nephews, nieces, and valued friends. Family that greeted Marilyn into heaven are husband “Roger-Dodger”, daughter Kelli Diane, parents Myron and Maggie Schlafer, and brother Michael Schlafer. Marilyn’s teen crush on Roger blossomed into a future marriage as a military wife and mother of five children. Their travels abroad and through the U.S. opened a world of lifetime friendships with returned trips to their Wisconsin roots and ultimately with their final move to Foley, Alabama. Together, the “dynamic duo” were founding members of New Life in Christ Church, Foley, Al., regular members of The Foley YMCA, and active members of Foley Klugg-Smith DAVA/DAV Chapter 6. Affectionately known as “Red” to her family, Marilyn began her medical career as a Red Cross volunteer in the 1950’s, continued as an operating tech at The University of Illinois Animal Clinic, and completed her career as a surgical nurse for The New Orleans and Biloxi VA and The South Baldwin Regional Hospital in Foley, Al. Marilyn was affectionately known as the “go to” nurse to many family and friends. Marilyn’s heart for people was reflected in her open door policy at home as in her many kindnesses to strangers as she genuinely loved others through Jesus’ eyes daily.
