Marie (Beth) Dorgan Shultz passed away on Tuesday, November 7, at her home in Daphne, AL. She was born November 23, 1955, to the late Mary Theresa and John Dorgan, Sr. at the old Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother Patrick (Joan) Dorgan, and brothers-in-law Rex Edwards and John Germann. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 46 years Edward John Shultz and her precious daughters Theresa “Terri” (Parker) Bostick, Elizabeth (Anthony) Neeley both of Fairhope and Jessica (Brent) Jernigan of Magnolia Springs; her 5 angel grandchildren: Carter, Bradley, Miller, Copeland, and Mary Jane; as well as her brothers John (Carol Ann), Robert (Susan), Billy (Patty), Tim (Elaine) and sisters Anne Germann, Dee Dee Edwards, Mary (Gerald) Gore, and Peggy (Philip) Steadman; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Beth was so proud of her childhood growing up in Mobile in a large Catholic family always having someone to play with and her summers at the family’s cottage at Mullet Point on Mobile Bay. She graduated from McGill-Toolen High School and immediately went to work for the Catholic Department of Education. Beth was then hired as a secretary at the University of South Alabama where she met her future husband, Ed, who was a graduate assistant also in the Department of Special Education. Beth was completely fulfilled being a stay-at-home mother to her children until they were all of school age. She then landed a job with Hoover Materials in Fairhope for 15 years and finally as an office manager with Bay Mortgage Corp in Fairhope for 20 years before retiring. Her family was her life and passion. She was so loving and giving to everyone she met. If you had a special occasion or tragedy, you got one of her special cakes and maybe even a lasagna dinner. If you needed something sewn, or a babysitter, or someone to talk to, she made time for that too. Her Catholic faith was her priority, and she had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. She spent a lot of free time in prayer. Beth loved to laugh, joke around, and take care of others while never expecting anything in return. She lived a life of service to others. A Mass of Celebration of her life with Fr. Steve Williams as celebrant will be Friday, November 17 at 11:00 at St. Lawrence Church in Fairhope, AL. Visitation with her family will be in the St. Lawrence Room next to the main church from 9:30-10:55. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Columbarium behind the church. All family and friends are invited to remain for a luncheon immediately following at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) in Memphis, TN or to St. Lawrence Parish (stlawrencefairhope.com) in Fairhope, AL.
