Margaret Mary McDevitt Robinson died peacefully on November 4, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Hospital in Sandy Springs, GA, where she went suddenly the last day of her life. She was born in Birmingham on June 2, 1922, one of six children of Margaret Mary (Tomerlin) and Anthony McDevitt. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Parish in Birmingham from her birth and Baptism in 1922 until she and her husband moved their growing family to the suburbs of Birmingham. She was married at St. Paul’s Cathedral to Hugh J. Robinson, Jr., a veteran of the United States Navy, on June 25, 1942.  Mrs. Robinson was a stay-at-home Mom who raised her children as she had been raised. The family lived in the Shades Valley and Shades Mountain area outside Birmingham. Her family was active in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Homewood, AL, where her children attended the Parish school.  After her children were grown and educated and after her husband of 42 years had become disabled, Mrs. Robinson lived independently in Birmingham and worked as a legal secretary and as secretary of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where Mrs. Robinson remained an active member until she was about 83.  About then she moved to Sandy Springs to be near her two daughters.  With financial advice and help from her first-born son, Richard, and lots of loving companionship and help from her daughters and their families, Mrs. Robinson made her home in lovely Mount Vernon Village in Sandy Springs where she lived independently the remaining years of her long life.  Mrs. Robinson was a faithful member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Parish in Sandy Springs for 12 years until she died.  She was a life-long faithful Roman Catholic who loved her Lord Jesus, the holy Catholic Church, her family, and her friends especially those at Mount Vernon Village where she was blessed especially by her daughter Mary Anne and son-in-law, Pat who lived nearby in Dunwoody, GA. Mrs. Robinson also loved music and the fine arts, needlework, beautiful plants and flowers, reading, especially the Magnificat, and maintaining the library at Mount Vernon Village with the help of her daughter, Mary Anne. Mrs. Robinson loved and encouraged all her family members and friends of all faith traditions. Mrs. Robinson was predeceased by her parents; by her husband; by her sister, Frances Scalise, and by her brothers: Reverend Monsignor Anthony J. McDevitt, Reverend Joseph McDevitt, and James E. McDevitt.   She was also predeceased by her first-born granddaughter, Margaret J. (Maggie) Robinson.                       Mrs. Robinson is survived by her sister Mary Burnet, Silver Springs, MD; her five children and their spouses:  Richard H. Robinson (Margie Swartz), Sacramento, CA; William A. (Sandy) Robinson, Daphne, AL; Hugh J. Robinson, III, Spokane, WA; Margaret M. “Peggy” (Michael) Costello, Athens, GA; and Mary Anne (Patrick) Knowles, Dunwoody, GA.
