Margaret Dean Maynord, age 101, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, surrounded by her family.
Margaret was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Fairhope.
After graduation in 1938, from Engley high school in Birmingham, Margaret Dean attended and graduated from Alabama College at Montevallo- at the time an all-girls school- in 1942 with a BS degree in Home Economics. She worked as a dietician at the Touro Infirmary in New Orleans in the early War years. Her career as a dietician was shortened as she married her “grew-up-on-the same-street sweetheart”, Percy Maynord, U.S. Army Air Corp, on “D-Day”, June 6, 1944. Margaret Dean and Percy had three sons, Chris in 1946, Steve in 1949, and Harris in 1955; all born in Austin, TX.
Margaret Dean began a second career in 1962 as Director of St. Martin’s Lutheran Day School, Austin. Resuming work presented a problem for Margaret Dean as she did not drive. She learned to drive in 1961 at age 42 and soon acquired her first car. She retired from the Day School in 1983 after 21 years. The next year, Margaret Dean, got her “place on the water” with the purchase of the Gulf Shore property.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Maynord and a grandson, Matthew Barnes.
Surviving her are her three sons, Chris (Connie) Maynord of Hendersonville, TN, Steve (Beverly) Maynord of St. Joseph, LA and Harris (Denise) Maynord of Fairhope; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and many other loving relatives and friends.
