Margaret Lee McGinnis Lowry died in Fairhope, Alabama on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the age of 81. She was born in Greenwood, Mississippi on May 26, to Marie Rogers McGinnis and Percy Lee McGinnis. She was married for 54 years to William M. Lowry, Jr.

After graduating from Greenwood High School, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi before graduating from Mississippi College for Women. After graduation, she moved to Greenville, where she met her husband Bill while crossing the street in front of the post office. After dating just over a year, Margaret asked Bill if he was going to marry her, because if not, she was going to move to New Orleans to get her master’s degree. They were married the following year in 1965. Margaret finally got her Master’s in Social Work in the early 1990s, traveling weekly to Jackson and Hattiesburg with a group of friends she always warmly remembered.

Margaret was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville prior to moving to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2000. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, where she enjoyed serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She enjoyed working with and helping people as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for close to fifteen years while in Fayetteville.

After the death of her husband Bill in 2019, she moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama in 2020 to live with her son Will and his family. While in Gulf Shores, she was a member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, of which her son is Rector.

Margaret enjoyed traveling, reading, shopping, hosting parties, helping others and hollering louder than anyone around her for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Sydney Bailey, Barbara “Bobbie” Jones; and her husband Bill. She is survived by her daughter Mary “Meg” Mitchell (Jay), Abita Springs, Louisiana; her son the Reverend William M. Lowry, III (Ivee), Gulf Shores, Alabama; grandchildren Andrew Mobley, Fayetteville, Arkansas; Rebecca Mobley, Omaha, Nebraska; Amy Mitchell, Abita Springs; Norah Lowry, Gulf Shores; Clelie Lowry, Gulf Shores; her sister Laura Wilkerson (Tommy), Lafayette, Louisiana; brother Lee McGinnis (Judy), Greenwood, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, extended family and friends whom she loved dearly.
