FOLEY-Marcus Darwin “Doc” Hollingsworth passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born at home in Fayette County, AL, to Arthur and Ila Wright Hollingsworth, the seventh of ten children. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1955. He spent eight years in the US Air Force specializing in radio communications based in Germany, California, and Arizona. Upon discharge in 1963, he worked for Western Electric/AT&T retiring in 2001 as a Senior Communications Service Technician. His career took him all over the world including Taiwan, Belize, Peru, Venezuela, and Mexico. Being known throughout his life as “Doc” created many amusing situations. Since this was the only name he knew as a child, on his first day of school when he told his teacher his name, she told him to go home to ask his mother because Doc was not it. Even in adulthood, people would confuse him as a doctor and seek medical advice, and due to his fun-loving nature he would humorously oblige. He enjoyed all things water: skiing, fishing, shrimping, and cruising in various waters of Alabama, and sailboat racing in San Diego, CA. In his later years he loved playing golf daily and even achieved six hole-in-ones. He is survived by Tekla Arceneaux his longtime partner; daughters Donna Day (Steve) and Marla Barnes (Gary) by his former spouse Patsy Perkins Hollingsworth; six grandchildren, Matthew Day (Audi), Michael Day, Meghan Massey (Jared), David Barnes (Claire), Sarah Howell (James), Morgan Brewer; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, AJ Hollingsworth, Gil Hollingsworth, and Bura Hollingsworth; and sisters, Nancy Blanche Broughton, Glenda Mae Hollingsworth, and Tresha Joy Hollingsworth, all of Northport. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruth Tucker, Sondra Barrett (Lawrence) and Beverly Pinion (Herman), all of Northport. He would also wish to acknowledge his many nieces and nephews and their families There will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, a memorial plaque is being placed at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort, 34904 Alabama Highway 225, Spanish Fort, AL. The family requests that you honor him by sharing your favorite memories with them. ARRANGEMENTS BY WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY, INC. 2551 S. MCKENZIE ST.
